Union United Methodist Church (first) is dedicated.
November 17, 1870
Architect: Alexander Estery. Originally the Union Congregational Church (first), it is designed in the Gothic Revival style (High Victorian Gothic style) and located at 485 Columbus Avenue. The congregation was established in 1822 and met initially on Essex Street. Samuel Green is the first minister. The congregation subsequently merges with the People’s Temple, then merges with and moves to the Old South Church. The Columbus Avenue building is purchased by the Fourth Methodist Episcopal Church in 1949.
